Chinese Medicine
(including acupuncture, acupressure, Chinese dietary therapy and herbal therapy)
Chinese Medicine has been used for thousands of years to achieve balance and health. It is based on the theory of “qi” or life energy. This energy is the force behind a flower opening up to the sun or the force we employ when doing physical activity. Healthy qi flow in the body creates wellness. Interruption of the flow of qi compromises the body’s careful balance of energy and may result in illness. Symptoms of imbalance can manifest in many ways. Chinese Medicine treats the root of the imbalance not the superficial symptoms. At Union Center for Healing, we treat many conditions including but not limited to headaches, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, menstrual disorders, and both male and female fertility. In a typical session we will diagnose the root cause of imbalance by using pulse and tongue diagnosis. These techniques provide information about the internal condition of the individual. We will then use a variety of techniques such as acupuncture (the insertion of fine needles into the skin), acupressure (the use of finger pressure at the acupuncture points), Chinese herbal therapy (this may be administered by capsules or tincture), Chinese Nutritional Therapy (dietary advice based on Chinese Medicine principles) or Lifestyle Counseling (advice on lifestyle based on Chinese Medicine constitutional diagnosis).
Vickie and Roxane will discuss your goals for healing and come up with a treatment plan. Healing with Acupuncture and Chinese herbs is a process through which with each treatment, you can go deeper into healing and allow the positive energies within you to unfold. Basically, it is not a one time deal - acupuncture and herbs generally take more than one treatment, or a series of treatments. Some of our clients come in weekly, some once a month, some once every three months or as needed.
Massage Therapy
The massage therapists at Union Center for Healing use a variety of specialized manual therapies in their practices. These include deep tissue massage, neuro-muscular therapy, myofascial work, injury treatment, pregnancy massage, structural work, Temple Lomi style massage, cranial sacral, reiki, and relaxation massage. Most insurance plans are accepted.
In addition, Vickie and Roxane are licensed massage therapists. They integrate Tui na, a form of massage used in Chinese medical practice, into their treatments of painful conditions. Tui na uses acupuncture points to help relieve tension and to treat pain and injury.
Other services are offered at Union Center for Healing. Please see about us for a complete list of practioners and treatments provided.
